Meet the people behind the advice.

Margaret founded Halyburton Legal in 1994 after practising in Newcastle for eight years. She brings deep property and estate planning expertise and is known for her calm, methodical approach to complex transactions. Margaret oversees all three offices and remains actively involved in client matters.

James joined the firm in 2006 and leads our family law practice. He handles separation, divorce, property settlements and parenting matters with sensitivity and clarity. Clients value his ability to cut through the legal complexity during what is often the most difficult period of their lives.

Sarah specialises in residential and commercial conveyancing, acting for buyers, sellers and developers. She joined Halyburton Legal in 2018 and has built a strong reputation for responsiveness and attention to detail. She is based primarily at our Warners Bay office.

David advises clients on wills, powers of attorney, advance care directives and estate administration. He takes the time to understand each client's personal circumstances before making recommendations, and is particularly experienced with blended family arrangements and superannuation death benefits.

Rebecca handles disputes across a broad range of commercial and civil matters, including contract disputes, debt recovery and neighbourhood disputes. She has appeared in the NSW Local Court and District Court and brings a practical, outcome-focused approach to every matter.

Tom joined the firm in 2022 after completing his legal training in Newcastle. He assists across the conveyancing and estate planning teams, working closely with senior solicitors to deliver timely, accurate advice. He is based at our Belmont office.
